Community workarounds. The stuff that people in the know, know.
An alternative mounting location inside the glovebox for a cleaner install. Keeps the unit hidden while still accessible.
A phone mount install location that integrates cleanly with the Screenmate One setup.
The default Android browser, Chrome, and Brave will often give you an 'unsupported' error when trying to download most files on the SMO. Download and use Firefox instead. It handles file downloads flawlessly, allowing you to easily download and install third-party APKs directly to the unit.
Fix the time on your Screenmate One. Having the incorrect time set can cause issues with apps like Youtube and give that "Chain validation failed" error.
Because some apps lack built-in Bluetooth delay compensation (unlike Netflix or YouTube), you might notice an audio sync issue. The Screenmate team is currently developing a Wi-Fi browser solution and a paid hardware USB solution to minimize latency. Some users have purchased FM transmitters and RF Modulators to utilize the Tesla's FM radio for audio, freeing up Bluetooth for their phone.
The Screenmate One uses a nano SIM and you install it contact side up with the notch facing the device.
Ensure that your APN settings are correct for your mobile provider. Usually they have them listed on their website. If that doesn't work, try using the below ADB commands to enable those features and then restart your Screenmate One. (Thanks Chufleco!)
adb shell cmd role remove-role-holder --user 10 android.app.role.SMS com.android.messaging adb shell cmd role add-role-holder --user 10 android.app.role.SMS com.android.messaging adb shell appops set --user 10 com.android.messaging WRITE_SMS allow adb shell am force-stop --user all com.android.providers.telephony
That completely depends on your use case and location. We've had people report success with Mint Mobile, Tello, etc. We have had numerous people report issues with activating service for the Screenmate One on US Mobile, so we don't recommend them for service.
